During 1998 summer holidays I had an honour to be on a bike trip with my friend Mirek. The pictures beneath are from that very escapade.The main route (in short) was as follows: Jelenia Góra - Prague - Vienna - Bratislava - Budapest - Zakopane.

31 VII - Prague - Charles Bridge - just after taking this picture a lady in a uniform approached and asked us not to sit on the railing. Real crowds were walking that bridge. It was difficult to carry bikes not even mentionning riding. However there was a nice park on the other side, where we had lunch.

31 VII - Prague - Charles Bridge behind - We carry our bikes climbing an extreeeeeeemly long stairway. At that moment we didn't know yet that one could actually ride up there. Well, if there is no one willing to check it...

And this one is a downhill ride. You can see no hill but instead you can see the speed - this is owing to Mirek. Some people thought the thing, I was riding, was a motorbike...maybe it really looks similar?

4 VIII - And finally we arrived to Vienna. We were really frantic with joy :-). It was about 10 o'clock. We visited town, we were at Prater (we spent most of our money there) and that's it. And yet, at that very day, we still managed to reach Bratislava :-|. Well, the road was straight, the wind blew our backs - there was nothing else to do, nothing but to ride.

4 VIII - In the middle of Vienna. There were lots of things worth seeing in every town but unfortunately we had to watch our bikes. So we visited only from outside. And then we agreed that next time we would go to do sightseeing (landscapes), not to visit towns.

5 VIII - This one is Hungary and Danube in the background. It looks nice from the distance but as soon as we approached the mosquitos almost ate us.

6 VIII - And here we arrived to Budapest. This town is nothing but dirt, stink and high kerbs. I think it was the worst experience during the trip. Our bikes beneath. And here is an excursion diary entry: 'Budapest --> stinks, kerbs high, holes in streets and it is stifling hot'.

7 VIII - Budapest left behind, it's 6:00 o'clock. There is a road behind that bush. A tractor woke us up, it was riding some 50m away from our tent. August and so cold...
